Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden at South Walsham, Norfolk, has commissioned a new early flowering woodland primrose from leading primrose expert Howard Lupton of Select Seeds. The first plants were revealed at Mr Lupton’s Norwich base on 17 February.

Fairhaven Garden will take delivery of 5,000 of the purple and lilac primroses in October for planting. They will flower for the first time in the Winter Garden next February. A further 5,000 plants will be on sale in the garden’s plant centre.

Louise Rout Fairhaven Garden Manager said: “The new primrose will be a very colourful addition to our Winter Garden, which we have been developing over the last four years and will be a lovely contrast to our yellow woodland primroses which are at their best in April.”
